At Bath Spa University AMA was awarded the interior fit-out for the new ‘Commons’ building. This fascinating, flexible and innovative new teaching facility, the main hub on campus, opened in 2014. The building is the university’s largest, with 8,000 sq m over three floors, providing additional teaching and meeting spaces, staff work bases and major specialist digital studio facilities.
Our task was to bring the internal spaces to life and to create a place that both students and academic staff would want to use and share. Emphasis was on the introduction of multi-use spaces and re thinking the academic workplaces to be much more open and with shared facilities. We took just 15 months from start to finish, including wide consultation, design, specification, tendering and fit-out.
The building was designed by Cube Design.
